ITO KNITTO

"Great knitwear should envelop the wearer in comfort and that delightful ‘umpf’ that only high-quality natural fibers can provide. When crafted well, there’s truly nothing like it."

Mette Hyllested-Winge is the creative force behind ITO KNITTO. Her journey began in 2012 when she relocated from Copenhagen to Tokyo, igniting a passion for the fusion of Japanese yarns and Danish design.

The name ITO reflects the Japanese word for yarn, while KNITTO is an Anglicized take on the Japanese term for knitting.

Since moving to Japan, Mette has been designing knitwear under her brand, MHW Knitwear, while also managing ITO KNITTO, her yarn shop that introduces exquisite Japanese yarns to machine knitters in Scandinavia.

In 2022, during her transition to the United States, Mette chose to merge MHW Knitwear and ITO KNITTO under one unified brand, focusing on creating unapologetically soft and fluffy knitwear.

"Nature has spent millennia perfecting the balance of softness, protection, and 'umph.' We aim to harness that expertise in everything we create. The quality of a scarf or sweater ultimately hinges on the harmony between yarn and design. That perfect blend is our pursuit at ITO KNITTO."

Our mission is to create the ideal sweater you’ve always imagined but could never find—soft, luscious, and warm.

We are fortunate to collaborate with skilled artisans in Japan and Peru, who bring our designs to life with their exceptional craftsmanship.

At ITO KNITTO, we work alongside passionate individuals who share our commitment to achieving the perfect balance between yarn and design, allowing us to offer luxurious knitwear that celebrates natural fibers and artisanal artistry.

Our designs are intentionally simple and Scandinavian, allowing the beauty of the yarn to shine.
